Be prepared for flu season. Spectrum Health offers these helpful guidelines, including a list of flu symptoms, tips to avoid getting the flu, and when to use urgent care centers and emergency departments.
An important step to protect against the flu is to get the flu vaccine. Each year a vaccine is developed to protect against seasonal flu strains. This year's seasonal vaccine protects against three of the strains. Since the H1N1 (swine) flu strain emerged after the seasonal flu vaccine was in production, it is not contained in the seasonal vaccine.
All five Spectrum Health urgent care centers offer the seasonal and H1N1 flu vaccines. The vaccine will be available to anyone while supplies last on a first-come, first-served basis. With the flu season lasting through the winter, now is still a good time to receive the vaccine. For urgent care locations, hours and driving directions visit spectrum-health.org/urgent.
