Michigan's only flight-physician staffed air medical transport program
Aero Med transports individuals from the scenes of accidents and community hospitals to Spectrum Health. The helicopter is staffed with physicians and nurses who perform in-flight emergency care.
There is an aircraft in Grand Rapids, Michigan, that's available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and a second aircraft in Big Rapids that operates part time during peak hours.
Aero Med is nationally recognized and accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems.
Services
Aero Med's flight team transports and treats:
- Trauma and critical care adults, newborns and pediatric patients
- Women with high-risk pregnancies
- Patients with intra-aortic balloon pumps and left ventricular assist devices
Safety
Aero Med has logged more than 13,100 safe patient flights, more than 13,350 safe flight hours and has earned safety awards for 20 consecutive years.
Design
Aero Med owns two Sikorsky S-76® helicopters, one of the most powerful and reliable aircrafts in service today.
- The inside of the aircraft was designed with quality patient care in mind.
- Medical equipment and medications are within easy reach of the team.
- The cockpit is equipped with a certified instrument flight panel, weather radar, autopilot, and multiple navigation and communication systems.
- The aircraft has a maximum speed of 180 miles per hour.
